Constructed Wetlands

Harnessing the Power of Nature

Sewage and wastewater treatment can be sustainable and efficient—our natural solutions make it possible. We treat all types of wastewater, including domestic sewage, industrial effluents, and sludge, using environmentally friendly methods.

Our approach relies on the harmonious interaction of plants, filter media, and microorganisms. With deep expertise in this field, we guide you through every stage of your project—from feasibility studies and engineering design to financing, construction, and ongoing operation and maintenance.

We have proven our capability to scale green innovation, including the development of constructed wetlands in BITS campus Goa. For smaller applications, our compact Container systems efficiently treat wastewater even in limited spaces.

Sustainable, simple, and effective—this is our commitment to nature and your project.

Our Offerings

Constructed wetlands come in different designs, each tailored to specific wastewater treatment needs. At V-Tech WASH, we specialize in creating nature-based, low-energy systems that mimic natural processes while delivering reliable results.

Vertical Flow Wet Lands

A Vertical Flow Constructed Wetland is an engineered treatment system that mimics natural purification processes within a compact, planted filter bed. In this design, wastewater is intermittently applied to the surface through a controlled distribution mechanism, allowing it to percolate vertically through layers of gravel, sand, and root zones. As the water flows downward, it passes through an oxygen-rich environment where plants, microorganisms, and soil media work together to remove organic matter, nutrients, and pathogens.

Unlike horizontal flow wetlands, the vertical system maintains aerobic conditions throughout the process, which makes it highly effective in reducing BOD, COD, nitrogen, and other pollutants. Consequently, the result is a low-maintenance, energy-efficient, and cost-effective wastewater treatment solution.

Moreover, vertical wetlands are highly versatile and can treat a wide range of wastewater sources, including toilet effluent, greywater, stormwater, and select industrial discharges.

Furthermore, Portable Vertical Flow Wetlands take this technology a step further by packaging the system into modular, containerized units for quick deployment. These plug-and-play solutions are easy to transport and install, making them ideal for remote communities, institutions, industrial sites, construction projects, disaster relief operations, and temporary settlements. By combining mobility with sustainability, containerized wetlands provide an eco-friendly alternative to conventional treatment plants, delivering reliable performance with minimal operational demand.

WATT – Wetland Assisted Treatment Technology

A Wetland Assisted Treatment Technology (WATT) system is an advanced, engineered solution that enhances natural wetland processes for effective and sustainable wastewater treatment. In this system, wastewater passes through a series of specially designed treatment zones, where plants, engineered media, and microorganisms work together to remove contaminants. Unlike conventional wetlands, WATT integrates modular engineering and optimized hydraulics, ensuring consistent performance even under variable loads.

Furthermore, the system is designed to treat a wide spectrum of wastewater—including sewage, greywater, agricultural runoff, and select industrial effluents—with minimal energy input. By maintaining a balance of aerobic and anaerobic conditions, WATT achieves high removal efficiency for organic matter, nutrients, and pathogens. As a result, the treated water is suitable for reuse in landscaping, agriculture, or groundwater recharge.

In addition, containerized WATT systems are available as portable, ready-to-deploy modules housed in standard containers. These units provide a plug-and-play solution for decentralized wastewater treatment, offering flexibility for remote communities, institutional campuses, industries, disaster relief zones, and temporary settlements.

By combining nature-based treatment with modern engineering, WATT systems deliver an eco-friendly, low-maintenance, and scalable alternative to energy-intensive conventional wastewater treatment plants. Therefore, they serve as a reliable choice for sustainable water management in both urban and rural settings.

    FAQ

    Constructed Wet Lands : FAQs

A Constructed Wetland is an engineered system that mimics natural wetlands to treat wastewater using plants, soil, and microorganisms. It offers an eco-friendly and low-cost alternative to conventional sewage treatment plants.

They can effectively treat toilet effluent, greywater, stormwater, agricultural runoff, and select industrial wastewater such as textile or food processing discharges.

Land requirements vary with the type of system (Vertical Flow, Horizontal Flow, or WATT). Vertical Flow Wetlands need less space, making them suitable for institutions, industries, and urban areas.

    • Cost-effective to build and maintain

    • Low energy requirements

    • High efficiency in removing BOD, COD, nutrients, and pathogens

    • Produces reusable water for landscaping, agriculture, or recharge

    • Provides green cover and enhances local biodiversity

Minimal or no electricity is required, depending on the design. Systems like WATT and containerized wetlands can run with low or solar energy.

Yes. They are especially suited for decentralized rural sanitation projects, schools, healthcare centers, and small communities, as they are simple to manage and highly sustainable.

Yes, treated water is safe for gardening, landscaping, irrigation, and in some cases, groundwater recharge, depending on regulatory approvals.
